TV Programme needs ex Navy Guys with Tattoos

I received this email from Channel 4, if you would like to take part let me know asap:

I am working on a new primetime four-part Channel 4 beauty series fronted by Katie Piper. There is going to be a social history strand to the series, with each episode exploring a different theme. For one episode in particular, we are covering the history of tattoos in the UK.

I’m currently looking for two or more friends that decided to get tattoos in the 1950s/60s/70s - be that together or at similar times. Perhaps it was as a symbol of their friendship or one decided to get a tattoo and the rest followed suit.

From what I can understand, tattooing was quite common in the Navy so I was wondering whether you could help spread the word amongst your members be that in a newsletter, any social networking sites etc in the hope that this may be of interest to someone?

What we are looking to do is a fairly short sequence where our presenter Katie Piper meets them and finds out about their story and experience, their motivations for doing it etc. It’s very much a positive, celebratory piece about tattoos – we’ve already organised filming with a lady that got tattoos back in the early 1960s and also one of the UK’s oldest living  tattoo artists as part of this history strand. I’m not sure whether you are familiar with Katie Piper, but she was involved in a tragic acid attack and Channel 4 has previously covered her road to recovery.

2013 REUNION IN PLYMOUTH 10th ANNIVERSARY

The usual suspects turned up for our 10th Anniversary Reunion in Guzz at the Copthorne Hotel, those traveling furthest was Jan & Jackie Blain from France, but nobody from the Plymouth area! others came from the north of England, South Wales, Portsmouth and the Midlands to join in the festivities.Friday evening was the usual pint and natter, Saturday was an early start with the AGM at 9.15 quickly followed by a trip around the Plymouth Gin Distillery for late breakfast hic. As usual the ladies went off Shopping in Plymouth City Centre and the guys stayed in the Barbican area for various samples of good and not so good real ale, lunch was Cornish Pasties, but not from Ivor Dewdney's unfortunately.

The Reunion Dinner was attended by Tony and Janice dressed in their full wedding attire in honour of those who were unable to attend their real wedding in June, a great idea and everyone gave them a great welcome. The Dinner was consumed with gusto, followed by the Prize Raffle and a dastardly wicked Competition organised by the Secretary, followed by more refreshment until the early hours of Sunday.

Sunday was a very late breakfast for some (did you make it Tony?) others zoomed off back to their Home Ports having had another great weekend with old shipmates promising to do it all over again next year.

The venue and date for 2014 is open for discussion but will probably be in the Midlands, all ideas considered let the Secretary know when/where you would like it to be.

Jupiters Ship's Nameplate

Somewhere below the busy waters of Spithead in the depths of mud and slime lies a once highly , bluebell-polished ships nameplate on varnished oak bearing the words HMS JUPITER. It was 'mysteriously' lost overboard during the times of her early trials in the Summer of 1969. whilst running our of Pompey. The perpetrator of this crime, as far as I know, is to this day unidentified. Most suspect at the time were a number of Portsmouth RA's reluctant to leave their home port when talk of a Guzz weekend was the buzz. What happened, predictably, was the ship was moored in Spithead and the Tannoy resounded to the sound of First Lt's . voice saying ' All leave is cancelled until the offender comes forward'. Sound familiar? Further warnings followed over the next few hours and we spent a very tense 24 hours waiting.

Sadly I cannot remember the outcome to finalise this tale but if you were that sailor or you know what finally happened please step forward now.

I was a Pompey RA at that time. It was not me.
