It is with great sadness that we report the death on Sunday 29th January 2017 of Harold Lock, last know survivor of the sinking of HMS JUPITER F85 on February 27th 1942.
On the sinking of Jupiter, Harold along with others were captured by the Japanese on February 28th and imprisoned until the end of the War. His story is told in his Book THE FORGOTTEN MEN, a copy of which is available from the Association to read.
There will be a funeral in Bury St. Edmunds to which the Association will be attending with the Association Standard, date yet to be announced.
February 27th 2017 is the 75th Anniversary of the sinking by Mine of F85, in the Java Sea, a wreath laying at the Jupiter's Memorial Tree in the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire will take place at 1200 to mark this event.
Prior to the wreath laying we attend The Millennium Chapel of Peace and Forgiveness at the Remembrance Centre and is the only place in the country where the Act of Remembrance is observed daily at 11 am.
Would those wishing to attend please contact me as I have to inform the NMA if large groups are attending any official event, dress is Medals/Jupiter Ties/Blazers/Jackets/Berets if at all possible please as we are respecting our former Jupiter shipmates.
